ISEL is part of the consortium for the CUSTODIAN project, which aims to help fishermen locate fishing nets and other devices using a mobile phone, thus enabling them to be recovered and thus combating plastic pollution in the oceans.
Led by SOLVIT, it also includes the Air Centre, Lotaçor, which manages the Azores auctions, Docapesa, UAVision and the National Technical University of Norway.
The project involves developing an infrastructure which, as well as allowing fishermen’s buoys to be monitored, also makes it possible to detect the loss of fishing nets or other fishing gear.
